|Krill Oil: What to Know Before You Buy
Learn Which Supplement Doctors Say Works Better Than Anything Else At Reducing Cholesterol, Easing Inflammation, and Maintaining A Healthy Heart
|If you take fish oil, you may have heard about krill oil--a similar supplement that often packs in even more Omega 3s, Omega 6s, and other health-benefiting ingredients.
Like fish oil, krill oil can improve your entire body’s health. But many krill oils are even more powerful and can safer than Omega 3s from fish oil. This is because Krill Oil doesn't contain the mercury many fish oils do.
However, there are a lot of different products out there, and they aren’t all what they’re cracked up to be. Some companies will throw anything in a bottle if they think it will make them money.
That’s why we decided to review the top krill oil on the market. For this test, we gathered up about 30 different krill oils, and narrowed them down to the three we like the best.
Here were some of our concerns, and some of the things we looked for while conducting our research:
- They may not work: This is always a concern when there are so many products on the market. Will this supplement provide the benefits it claims to provide? Many companies use fillers or make false claims that they simply can’t back up.
- They’re expensive: Most krill oil products aren’t cheap. So if you’re going to spend good money on a product, it better be a good product. This common concern is one of the reasons why we review products: so you spend your money on products that will actually work.
- Do the pills contain what the label promises: Many companies make promises about how many Omega 3s their capsules contain, but if the ingredients aren’t in the supplements, then what’s the point?
- They’re taking advantage of a trend: If you Google krill oil, you’ll find dozens of companies selling their own version. We know krill oil can be effective, but some companies are less interested in selling a quality product and more interested in creating huge profit margins by selling inferior products at the industry-standard price.
So how can you know which brands to trust and which krill oils will give you the healthy body you want? Check out our research method to see how we tested the products, then see which ones made the cut.
Our Research Method
For krill oil to be really effective, it needs to have the right ingredients, including lots of Omega 3s. it should also feature astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant that some oils have.
Beyond these two key ingredients, we also looked for positive customer reviews. After all, if the people who have used a product don’t like it, why would we recommend it?
Right along with reviews, we analyzed the company’s reputation: is this a company that popped up solely to sell krill oil, or are they an established supplement manufacturer known for researching their products and only using the best ingredients?
One thing we found was that many of the best companies are willing to put their products through third-party testing. So that was, of course, a bonus for us. If they’re willing to let others verify their supplements, then that’s a very strong indicator of quality.
And, lastly, we looked at the value. Are companies inflating the price or trying to beat out the competitors with an inferior product at a lower price? Price and value are two very different things, and we set out to find the krill oil that gives customers the most bang for their buck.
What We Found
Keeping this rules in mind, our experts combed through some of the most popular krill oils on the market to see which ones lived up to their promises.
As we predicted, a lot of the products didn’t even make the first cut. Some of them didn’t even have the Omega 3s you can find in standard fish oil! But the products we did like were picked for a reason.
They have plenty of Omega 3s, Omega 6s, astaxanthin, and other high quality ingredients to promote a healthy heart, improve memory and combat depression, and improve skin health.
Of all the products we reviewed, one stood tall above the rest: the Premium Antarctic Blend from Whole Body Research.
We found this krill oil outperformed the pack when it came to ingredients, value, customer ratings, and company profile. Since they third-party test their supplement, we knew exactly what was going into our bodies, and the level of Omega 3s and other essential ingredients was better than our qualifications.
