Since not as many people can afford to buy a new computer these days, everyone is talking about Registry Cleaners. These products are being sold as a modern “miracle“ software that can completely restore your computer to the speed it was when you first bought it.

That was the part that really got me. You see, I’ve been a software engineer for 11 years and in that time I have never seen (or believed) any software could fix a computer that easily. I decided to download the most popular registry cleaners and give them a fair try.

My Shocking Discovery…

Unfortunately I found that many of the registry cleaners (both free and paid) do not work. But what’s even worse…. is that some of these products can be downright dangerous.

You see, your system’s registry is very delicate. If the wrong file is erased, it can literally cripple your computer. In fact there’s a whole list of serious problems you could run into by downloading the wrong registry cleaner. In the worst case, a program can take your computer “hostage”… by slowing it down and then asking for money to “fix the registry” This will happen every time you boot up, and it is very hard to get rid of. I can’t tell you how many of my friends have called me to help them fix this!

For the test (after running each registry cleaner) I used back up software to restore my computer back to it’s original slow state. This way I could do an accurate comparison of how each registry cleaner performed. Fortunately some of the registry cleaners I tested did a very good job. These registry cleaners found a much higher number of errors than all the rest, and fixed them quickly and easily.

By the time the program had finished, my computer was running faster than it had in years! Boot up speed was increased by 31%, with programs loading 26% faster, and internet browsing speed increased 43%! In my book that’s not bad for running a single program. Some of these registry cleaners really can work a miracle on old computers. Below are the top 3 registry cleaners I tested. If you are looking to speed up your computer, these are the best programs to use.

The Results of My Test

I measured the increase in web browse speed after running each software. The graph above shows the results.

The load times for different applications were measured as well. This graph shows the improvements.

Last I measured boot up times and this is where the biggest difference was seen.

Here’s the programs in my test.  As you can see MyMaxPC was the clear winner.  So, the question is.. “Should you use a registry cleaner?”.  Well, you can see for your self, they make a tremendous difference in a computer’s performance.

This was another winner for cleaning your systems registry. Although it didn’t fix as many registry errors as MyMaxPC It managed to find a more than the rest of the software tested. The result was dramatically improved PC speed. The software is a good alternative to MyMaxPC, it’s safe to download, and will put a little speed back into your computer.

The bottom line, Registry Mechanic is great software, but Reg Cure is better.

Reg Defense

Reg Defense in the third software on our list. This product fix a good amount of errors and restored some speed in my computer. It wasn’t as good as the other 2, but by no means a bad product. Reg Defense is safe to download

The bottom line, Reg Defense works better most, but there are better choices.

The Pro Caulk Kit is a simple tool kit that has everything you need to put in or repair caulking around the house.
